いままでVMWare Serverを使っていて、VMWare Server とVMWare Playerがどう違うのかイマイチよくわかっていなかったけど、新環境でVMWare Playerを使い始めたらわかるようになった。
ようするにVMWare Playerはユーザーアカウントでデスクトップ上でもう一台立ち上げる感じなのね。
VMWare ServerはVMWare Server Consoleから使ってると遅くて使い物にならないからリモート デスクトップで接続していたけど、VMWare Playerはさくさく動きます。
開発環境などのサンドボックスとしてはVMWare Playerのほうが使いやすいか。
会社の特殊環境用にVMWare Serverを使ったのは間違っていない、と。
2009/04/23 検索語：インストールできない
Windows XPにVMware Serverをインストールする途中で下記エラーが出てどうにもならない。
Error 1713. VMware Server cannot install one of its required products. Contact your technical support group.
「VMware XP インストール」や「VMware error 1713」で検索しても、ほとんど情報なし。
普通にXPで動作できているみたい。
インストール中に出た下記メッセージ関連かもと3日ばかり試行錯誤の末、XPを再インストールして、IISなしでインストールしたら素直に入った。
VMware Management Interface is only supported on Server operating systems. You may encounter some issues when using VMware Management Interface on this system.
結局、インストール中に「IISがねぇよ！」と警告されたので、気を回してコンポーネントの追加からIISを入れたのがダメらしい。疲れた。
Setup has detected that Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) either is not installed or is improperly configured on this machine. This component is required by the VMware Management Interface. If you intend to install and use the VMware Management Interface, you should install and configure IIS on this machine before you install VMware Server.
If you want to install the VMware Management Interface, please press the Cancel button to exit, then install and configure IIS on this machine. Once you have done so, you can run setup again and continue installing VMware Server.
If you want to continue installing VMware Server without the VMware Management Interface, click the OK button. You can always re-run setup to install the VMware Management Interface at a later time.

Virtual Machine
- IISを使っているとのこと。
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition に対応してない。インストールはできた。
- なぜか2Gメモリがあっても、Windows XPの仮想マシンに300Mぐらいしかメモリを割り当てられない。Enterpriseのせいか？
VMWare
- CPU割り当てができない？
- デフォルトで仮想マシンを作るとHDD分の容量がつくられてしまうので、ウィザードの6ページ目、HDDの容量を指定するところの下の
Allocate all disk space now.
はチェックをオフに。
- 2007/04/04 nLiteでイメージをつくったんだけど、win32k.sysが不正というエラーがでてうまくいかない。
HOSTOSにリモート インストール サービスを構築してみたが、
PXE-E53:No boot filename received
のエラー。研究しよう。
2007/04/06 CPU使用率を抑えたいのでProcess Tamer というツールを使うことにしました。
TIPS
仮想ディスクを別の仮想マシンにマウントできるので、インストール前にパーテション分割とかできる。
